The road is congested and there is construction on both sides of you and traffic is stop and go. You are late for work but realize there is nothing that you can do about it.

Suddenly someone flies past you on the shoulder and then proceeds to try to muscle in between you and the car in front of you. Though you were not going very fast, you did leave a three-second stopping distance and this person wants to not only cut in front of you, but also remove your safety zone.

You probably are angry by now. As long as it remains anger and you do not act on it, then it is a matter of letting it go and continuing on your way to work. If you stop and wait until there is a car distance between you, then accelerate and smash into the back of them, then you have moved into the road rage group.

Road rage is much more common now that people are spending a lot of time either commuting, or stuck in construction traffic. In fact, the number one city in the country for road rage incidents is Miami, Florida. There you have both construction, too many people on the road, and tourists who are lost. Add the heat and humidity, and tempers flare.

It stands to reason that with a higher accident rate, that the insurance rates are higher in the Miami area.

The Insurance Information Institute states that it is all in the intent. If you are deliberately plowing into the back of the car that cut in front of you, you may find that your accident is not covered. You might also find that your cheap car insurance premium just increased due to an accident and probably a ticket. There were witnesses to the incident.

Road rage is particularly prevalent during the holidays. People feel stressed out and they need to get things done that are not part of their normal routine. Often times they are driving in traffic that feels the exact same way, culminating in an extremely stressful driving situation.

If you find yourself feeling extremely stressed, or cut off in traffic, take a deep breath and remember that you do not want to pay for a momentary loss of control for a long time afterward. Your car insurance rates may increase costing you your cheap car insurance premium, you may need to pay for damages to another vehicle, you may receive a ticket for your actions, and worse of all, there may be someone injured.
