They will want your social security number and your driver’s license number. Every company is going to need the same information, no matter from which company you decide to get your cheap car insurance.

Since these things are what help to determine your insurance rates, you will need to provide them to whichever car insurance company you decide earns your business. It does not matter how long you have had car insurance or what company you came from, you need to provide this to your new company.

All the things that the insurance company requests when giving you a quote or writing your policy are changeable. Your vehicle make and model will change over the years. Your credit history can change, just as your employment changes. Your driving record may reflect a new ticket that you received. The insurance company requires your information to be current in order to give you the best possible insurance rates and discounts for which you may be eligible. This current information goes a long way towards getting you a cheap car insurance premium.

Your insurance company will not need you to send your information in to them throughout the time that you have your policy with them, as they already have your information and can easily check your driving history or credit rating. Your car insurance company may be one of the agencies that routinely check your credit history or your driver’s license. They are looking for things that may result in your insurance rates being adjusted.

While it may seem like a nuisance to need to provide the same information repeatedly, it can make a difference in whether you receive the best insurance rates available. If it saves you money, it is worth the time that it takes to provide the personal information to the car insurance company.

Can I use any body shop after an accident through my insurance provider?

Car Insurance Coverage
<guid

State laws allow you to decide which bodyshop that you trust will do the repair work on your vehicle. You may be required by your car insurance company to obtain a couple written estimates that you need to give to the car insurance company, but you are still able to decide which bodyshop to use.

Your insurance company will send out an adjustor to examine your vehicle and write their own estimate. This estimate may be less than what the bodyshop writes, which will require the bodyshop to work with your insurance company in order to reach an agreement on the settlement of damages.

The insurance company may decide that they will not repair parts of your vehicle that they determine are not related to the accident. You may need a new headlight and the insurance company will deny that claim stating that it was not related to the accident. The bodyshop has trained personnel who daily work with the insurance companies and generally can get supplements for additional necessary parts approved.

In some states, such as California, an insurance company can recommend a bodyshop to do the repairs. You still have the right to decide whether to use that repair shop. If you do choose the repair shop recommended by the insurance company, the repair shop must work with you and if you are not satisfied, they must make it right. The insurance company has placed itself as a party to the repair, which means they are guaranteeing the work.

Your repair estimate will also reflect whether you are getting Original Equipment Manufactured (OEM) parts or remanufactured and salvage parts. California state law require that this is stated on your estimate or repair bill and requires insurance companies to guarantee that the replacement parts are equal to the original.

No matter which autobody shop you choose has no bearing on the insurance rates that you are charged, so by choosing your own bodyshop, you will not need to give up your cheap car insurance premium. Your insurance rates may go up if you are at-fault in an accident, but not because you chose your own bodyshop to do the repairs.

Will liability insurance cover people other than who are on the policy?

Car Insurance Coverage
<guid

In some cases, you will need to contact your car insurance agent to make sure that the same coverage limits are in place for everyone who drives your car. It is possible that the limits for other drivers are reduced to state mandated limits, which could eliminate the coverage for collision or comprehensive for other drivers not listed on the policy.

Reduced limits could also apply to valets and other service personnel; normally they are covered under their employers insurance so claims would be made through those insurance companies first.

If someone driving your vehicle has an accident that is deemed his or her fault, you will be the one whose insurance rates will go up. Any claim can cause your rates to go up, jeopardizing your cheap car insurance premium, so it is advisable to know who you are allowing to drive your vehicle. If this is a family member and you trust them, chances are there will be no repercussions from borrowing your car. If this is the neighbor kid who mows your lawn, you might wish to reconsider.

In some cases, your insurance company may not cover a relative driving your car. If this person is living with you, you may find a claim denied simply because you should have added them to your policy in the first place. If you call your agent, you may find that it is possible to add any family members in your household and still keep your cheap car insurance premium. The only time this could be a detriment is if the person you wish to add has a driving history full of tickets and accidents. If this is the case, you might wish to call your car insurance company and exclude them from your policy.

If your vehicle is stolen, damages done from a theft will not be covered unless you have comprehensive and collision insurance. Joyriding is not the same as giving permission to someone to borrow your car.

I was hit from behind, could it be my fault?

Car Insurance Coverage
<guid

If you were operating your vehicle in an unsafe manner, cut in front of another driver and then put your brakes on, you could conceivably have been hit in the rear. You may not have allowed the other driver safe braking distance, thereby being hit by the other driver.

The determination can be made by examining the damage to both vehicles, witness reports, traffic cameras and other driver’s statements that are all part of the traffic accident report written by law enforcement. It is important to contact law enforcement if you are involved in an accident, regardless of how much damage you think has occurred. That report may make the difference between whether or not you need to get an attorney in the future.

If you have a history of being involved in rear-end collisions, you may wish to look at your driving habits. If you continue to have accidents, you may find that your insurance company charges you more for your insurance rates. When you present a risk to your insurance company, it is a bit harder to get a cheap car insurance premium.

If you did cause the accident, you may find that you have been given a ticket for unsafe driving or other practices that may cause your car insurance rates to increase the next time your cheap car insurance premium is due.

If you have been found at-fault, your insurance company will pay for the repairs of the other driver’s vehicle and you may see an increase in your insurance rates upon renewal. If you are carrying collision insurance, you will need your car insurance company to repair your car and you will be responsible for the deductible.

If you are involved in a rear-end collision, contact your insurance company as soon as you can and if you are not the at-fault driver, you will also need to contact the other driver’s insurance company in order to start your claim with them.

Are there benefits for a child to NOT be on their parents insurance policy

Car Insurance

Car Insurance Coverage
<guid

While the insurance rates are higher for teens, teenagers may be better off with an insurance policy of their own as opposed to being added to the policy of their parents.

There are specific advantages to adding a teen to a parent insurance policy, some of which include discounts for multiple vehicles, homeowner’s discounts and even safe driving discounts. Even though the insurance premium will go up when a teen is added to it, the increase may not be so significant if the parent is enjoying other discounts on their insurance rates.

However, there are benefits to the teen to get their own policy under certain circumstances.

If the teen is going to be paying for their own portion of the premium on their parent’s policy and the parents have an expensive car or paying higher insurance rates due to accidents and tickets, the teen may be able to purchase a cheap car insurance policy on their own.

If the teen owns his or her own car, they will need to get a policy in their own name anyway to avoid being suspect of fraud by putting the policy, but not the car, in the parent’s names.

If the parents are carrying a lot more insurance than the teenager needs, the teen may consider getting their own policy with coverages that only apply to them. If their vehicle is a lower value vehicle, they may only need to purchase the necessary liability insurances as opposed to comprehensive and collision that their parents may have on a new car.

The teen can save money and may be eligible for a discount if they pay cash for the policy up front and do not make monthly payments. They may also look to compare quotes at the end of the six-month period as they will have had previous insurance and since they paid it up front, other insurance companies may look upon them favorably.

These are some of the benefits of not being on the parent’s policy, but both sides should be compared in order to make the best financial decision in purchasing car insurance.

If I don’t have insurance could my car be impounded?

Car Insurance Coverage
<guid

Every state and municipality has their own rules and regulations regarding car insurance, but every state requires you to carry either insurance or proof of financial responsibility in order to register your vehicle.

If you live in Dallas, Texas, and your vehicle is impounded for any reason, you will need to show proof of insurance before the police department will release the vehicle to you.

If you do not have insurance, you will need to get insurance before you are given your vehicle back.

The law in Dallas was enacted in January of 2008 and was a response to findings that concluded many drivers in the Dallas area were driving without insurance. The city council empowered the Dallas Police Department with permission to tow and impound any vehicle driven by anyone without insurance regardless of the original purpose of the traffic stop.

Similar laws are all across the nation and recently the state of Louisiana sent a law to the House of Representatives in Louisiana to overturn a ban on impounding uninsured vehicles. The original law allowed for the impounding of uninsured vehicles, but was amended to stop the automatic impounding of uninsured vehicles unless the police felt the driver was a menace to the public.

Since then, the amendment has been overturned and Louisiana can once again impound your vehicle for lack of insurance at any routine traffic stop. You need to prove to law enforcement that you have insurance or they will tow your vehicle.

Many states have data bases set up that checking to see whether you are insured is almost as routine as checking for tickets against your driver’s license.

Driving without insurance is not taken lightly and some law enforcement agencies do have permission to impound vehicles that are not carrying the required car insurance.

There are many places to check for cheap car insurance and compare insurance rates that driving without insurance should not happen. Insurance rates and discounts are abundant and there are many ways to save money on car insurance. The availability of cheap car insurance premiums should keep most people from having their car impounded for lack of auto insurance.

Does my motorhome require special auto insurance?

Car Insurance Coverage
<guid

The differences between the two coverages need to be examined carefully before you make your decision. Some insurance companies do not work with motorhomes and do not necessarily cover all of the things that you need covered by your car insurance policy.

You will want to look at what coverage is available for contents, as you would compare content coverage for a home. You will want to make sure that the coverage you receive also covers exterior components of your motorhome. You want your insurance to cover items like awnings and satellite dishes. Regular car insurance probably will not cover these items.

Additionally if you are living in your motorhome full-time or even part-time, such as in a mobile home park in Florida, you will want to make sure that you are covered just as you would as a homeowner.

If you store your motorhome during off-season or winter storage, you will want to make sure that the policy you are looking at will allow you to reduce your insurance rates for storage or non-use periods.

There are many other particulars for motorhomes that are not part of the traditional car insurance policies and you will want to compare insurance rates with several sources in order to decide which policy covers the most and provides a cheap car insurance premium.

You may find that you will qualify for a discount if you add both your motorhome and your auto with the same company. Any discount that would normally lower your insurance rates may still apply for motorhome insurance.

Motorhome insurance is still available with the same coverage as regular car insurance; you can have liability, comprehensive, collision and uninsured motorists coverages.

While many car insurance companies do not specialize in motorhomes, you can still ask for a quote from them. They may have access to other companies that do carry motorhome insurance. If you are going to get a cheap car insurance premium, you need to check all the companies before you decide.

Do I need my own insurance with my provisional license?

Car Insurance Coverage
<guid

Insurance is for vehicles, not driver’s licenses.

Most often, provisional driver’s license are the licenses awarded to teens for passing driver’s education courses and since most teens are still living at home, they would be eligible to be added to their parent’s car insurance policy.

This is a good time for you to check with other insurance companies to see if you can find a cheap car insurance premium. Your parents may find that adding a teen to the insurance policy may raise their insurance rates higher than if you were to get your own policy.

If you are not living at home with your parents or you are new to the United States, you will be required to purchase your own car insurance policy for the vehicle that you want to register. Every state has some type of insurance requirement that needs to be met prior to registering a vehicle.

Often times, the provisional license restricts driving to daylight hours and requires you to drive with a licensed driver over 25 in the vehicle with you. Each state is different regarding the laws around their provisional license or learner’s permits and licenses, so you need to check your state requirements. Provisional licenses allow for supervised driving.

California allows for holders of provisional licenses to drive without another licensed driver in the vehicle under certain circumstances. Generally, a note or permission slip is required to drive after hours; however, if you are an emancipated teen, you do not need permission.

Even though you do not need to get your own car insurance, you can always check other companies to see if you can find a cheap car insurance premium with lower insurance rates by going alone. If you decide to get your own policy, you will see your insurance rates go down once you turn 25. Girls will pay less for their car insurance rates than boys will since girls are less likely to take risks while driving.

What is Phantom Proof of Insurance Law?

Car Insurance Coverage

→

The state of Virginia requires auto owners to carry car insurance on any vehicle registered in the state, or pay a $500 uninsured motorist fee. However, there is no law on the books that says the motorist must carry proof of insurance with them when they are driving; hence, it is a phantom law.

If you are stopped in the state of Virginia, you only need show your driver’s license and registration in order to comply with the law.

The General Assembly in Virginia has been asked three different times to enact a law that requires motorists to carry proof of insurance. All three times, the General Assembly has declined to pass the law.

That has not deterred police in several jurisdictions from writing tickets to motorists for failure to provide proof of insurance, even though drivers are not legally required to carry it.

This also has resulted in some drivers paying fines and the cost of court when they have lost their cases. The drivers have been required to pay the $500 fee for being an uninsured motorist regardless of whether they were insured or not.

Code §46.2-707 of Virginia allows fines to be levied against any driver who fails to insure their vehicle or pay the $500 fee. Generally, at the traffic stop, the driver can show proof of insurance or is given a form to fill out with the proof and mailed in within 30 days of the stop.

Failure to provide proof is a Class 3 misdemeanor, which results in a conviction on a driver’s record and the automatic suspension of a driver’s license.

The fact is, since the state of Virginia does not require a motorist to carry proof of insurance, the driver needs to be able to provide the needed proof to the Department of Motor Vehicles to keep from paying the fine and court costs.

A suspended driver’s license will certainly raise insurance rates and can keep a driver from qualifying for a cheap car insurance premium. Anyone who has had problems with the misinterpretation of this code might want to request an insurance quote in order to make sure you are not overpaying on your insurance rates.

Even if you have not been to Virginia, it never hurts to request and insurance quote to make sure that you are not overpaying on your insurance rates.

Even if you have not been to Virginia, it never hurts to request and insurance quote to make sure that you are not overpaying on your insurance rates.

What is a Vanishing Deductible?

Car Insurance Coverage
<guid

You will be covering that portion of your repairs yourself.

Some auto insurance companies offer what they call a vanishing deductible. This program is for people who have never filed a claim against their insurance company.

It is a program that allows you to take $100 off your deductible for every year you have been a safe driver and have had no tickets or moving violations.

If your deductible is $500 and you have had no ticket or accidents for 5 years, you could see your deductible go to zero without your insurance rates being raised.

While this may sound like a good deal, there may be hidden fees in the fine print of programs like this.

For instance, if the privilege of having your deductible disappear costs you $60 a year and you go another 10 years without an accident, it just cost you $600 to get rid of a $500 deductible.

It is always a good idea to check the fine print before agreeing to programs that may be too good to be true.

To see if you are paying too much for your car insurance, you can always check your insurance rates by getting an insurance quote. You may qualify for cheap car insurance without the need to pay extra for the privilege of seeing your deductible disappear.

An insurance quote is easy to get and you might be surprised to see that you qualify for cheap car insurance.
