You may not be able to get the amount of insurance that you need to be adequately covered through your car insurance company.

You can get coverage for your motorhome through your normal car insurance company, or you can get coverage through an agency that specializes in motorhome insurance. The differences between the two coverages need to be examined carefully before you make your decision. Some insurance companies do not work with motorhomes and do not necessarily cover all of the things that you need covered by your car insurance policy.

You will want to look at what coverage is available for contents, as you would compare content coverage for a home. You will want to make sure that the coverage you receive also covers exterior components of your motorhome. You want your insurance to cover items like awnings and satellite dishes. Regular car insurance probably will not cover these items.

Additionally if you are living in your motorhome full-time or even part-time, such as in a mobile home park in Florida, you will want to make sure that you are covered just as you would as a homeowner.

If you store your motorhome during off-season or winter storage, you will want to make sure that the policy you are looking at will allow you to reduce your insurance rates for storage or non-use periods.

There are many other particulars for motorhomes that are not part of the traditional car insurance policies and you will want to compare insurance rates with several sources in order to decide which policy covers the most and provides a cheap car insurance premium.

You may find that you will qualify for a discount if you add both your motorhome and your auto with the same company. Any discount that would normally lower your insurance rates may still apply for motorhome insurance.

Motorhome insurance is still available with the same coverage as regular car insurance; you can have liability, comprehensive, collision and uninsured motorists coverages.

While many car insurance companies do not specialize in motorhomes, you can still ask for a quote from them. They may have access to other companies that do carry motorhome insurance. If you are going to get a cheap car insurance premium, you need to check all the companies before you decide.
